Player Spotlight : Eric Johnson

By Dan Baliban

Eric “Oreo” Johnson plays safety/defensive back for team Cookies N Cream in the PFFL’s Iron Conference East, along with his two brothers, Lee, 21, and Kevin, 18. They call themselves the family of Champions – Eric won the WPIL for football in 2000, Lee won a WPIL in Basketball, Kevin is anticipating playing safety or wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Colts this upcoming season, and little sister Kelly, only 15, boasts 2 WPILs and 1 state championship, soon to be 2, in basketball.

27 years old
Born Nov. 15, 1983

Eric played wide receiver at Mount Lebanon High School, and briefly at CCAC. After years of football, however, his contact sports career came to an end after recently undergoing surgery for the removal of a brain tumor. Luckily the surgery did not hinder his football skills, and flag football allows him to do what he’s great at without risking further injury.

Currently the equipment manager at the Nike factory store in Washington, Pa, Eric is a big Steelers fan, and loves Kordell Stewart. He has a positive season outlook, and anticipates playing next season. “We have a good team, we just need to play smart.” Team mates agreed that they collectively need to work on defending the short pass. When asked about the team name, he smiled and gestured to his team mates, “well, we figure we have a few cookies, and a little bit of cream!”
