Losing any player during the championship game is tough to overcome, let alone the starting quarterback.

Interview with PRIMETIME

In the weeks leading up to the championship game, I was very skeptical about PRIMETIME’s ability to defend their championship trophy from last season for several reasons. First, their roster had been a revolving door all season. Second, All-Star Quarterback Jason Scott missed his team’s final four games. As a result I thought that he would be a tad rusty going into the postseason. Finally, I wondered whether PRIMETIME had a realistic chance of getting back to the title game after recording an unimpressive 6-4 record in the regular season.

Fortunately for the defending champs, my concerns were rendered irrelevant because PRIMETIME went 4-0 in the double elimination playoff tournament culminating in a 38-14 victory over WRECKING CREW in the championship.

Although Scott didn’t have to worry about being rusty in this matchup, the signal-caller was forced to leave the game early in the first half due to injury. Before he went out, Scott went five for seven for one touchdown.

Losing any player during the championship game is tough to overcome, let alone the starting quarterback. Fortunately, PRIMETIME summoned All-Star Bruce Thornton (a player that I inadvertently snubbed from the Top 50 list) to replace Scott. At QB Thornton was masterful, throwing for four touchdowns.

“Bruce is one of the best athletes around,” Scott said. “You can plug him in at any position and he’s going to be an All-Star at it.”

Even without Scott PRIMETIME was still going to be tough to beat due to their talented receiving corps. All-Star Kenny Ashmore (10 receptions, four TDs) and Tahir Jackson (five receptions, one TD) gave Thornton plenty of wide open targets to hit.

On the other side of the field the CREW looked like overwhelmed team for the entire game. All-Star QB Jeff Bollinger was awful completing just 14 of 25 throws for a 54.6 passer rating. PRIMETIME converted Bollinger’s two interceptions into 13 points.

In all fairness to this season’s runner up, WRECKING CREW had to play six games prior to advancing to the championship. Against PRIMETIME they were clearly gassed. The winners jumped out to a quick 14-0 advantage and never looked back.

Except for two meaningless TDs, there weren’t many highlights for WRECKING CREW.

Now that PRIMETIME has won their second championship, the team has joined REIGN, STEELTOWN, and VAPOR as the only teams in league history to win multiple titles. The pressure is now on for the champs to complete a three-peat. I’m sure that Cornell Mack and VAPOR will have something to say about that this fall.

CONGRATULATIONS PRIMETIME!
