5 Rules to Know

The play clock will stop with 1 minute left in the game in the event of an incompletion, penalty, change of possession, out of bounds, or first down.

The referee will stop the clock for a variety of reasons with 1 minute remaining in the game.

A 28 point score differential ends the game.

Although most of the PFFL teams are highly competitive, there are instances where one team runs away with the game.  In the event of a 28 point score differential, the game will be called.

Player’s shirts must be tucked in at all times. If a player’s shirt hangs over his flag belt, holding will be called.

The referee will call holding on any player whose shirt covers his flag belt or impedes the defense from fairly pulling his flag.

All pass attempts must be forward and beyond the line of scrimmage.

A pass is legitimate if it is thrown down field and past the line of scrimmage.

All players that rush the passer must be a minimum of seven yards from the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. The rusher is allowed a direct line to the quarterback long as he rushes from either side of the field and not up the “middle”. The “middle” is considered 1 yard on both sides of the puck or line marker. The “middle” is a judgment call made by the referee since there are no hash marks on the field. The offense must avoid impeding the rusher.

This rule is often cited during PFFL games. In essence, the offense must avoid impeding the rusher, who must start 7 yards from the line of scrimmage and is allowed  a direct line to the quarterback.
