Swain’s Top 5 Rushers

02/21/2012, 9:00am (EST)
By Devyn Swain

there are only a handful of true pass rushers in the PFFL.

One of the most undervalued positions in flag football is the rusher. Many players think that they can rush; however there are only a handful of true pass rushers in the PFFL. Now it’s time to give my picks for the rushers that give opposing quarterbacks the most grief.

5. Eric Quinn- BALLZ DEEP is known for All-Stars Steve Chockla and Jeremy Greenawalt and rightfully so. They’ve always been competitive since their debut in the Spring 2010 season. In addition the squad has benefitted from the rushing prowess of Eric Quinn.  Over the past two seasons Quinn has quietly collected 28 sacks. While Quinn was snubbed for the Fall 2011 All-Star game I have a hunch that he’ll make the team in Spring 2012.

4. Gary “Goose” Fisher   - In four seasons Goose has established himself as a one-man wrecking crew against opposing offensive schemes. Currently is the OFFL’s third leading rusher with 37 total sacks. In the Summer 2010 season, Goose set a single-season sack record with 16 that was eclipsed by fellow All-Star rushers Ryan Lancia and Brandon Carter.

3. Brandon Carter- UPDAWG’s biggest asset is the diverse playmaking abilities of All-Star Wider Receiver and Rusher Brandon Carter. Carter set the PFFL world on fire last season when he set a new single-season sack record with 20. Carter’s record-breaking performance last fall earned him DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR honors. I don’t think anyone will ever break Carter’s record.

2. Elliot Williams- Since their entry into the league the STALLIONS have been one of the better defensive teams statistically. While there are several reasons why the STALLIONS are the PFFL equivalent of the legendary “Steel Curtain” defense of the 1970s, All-Star Rusher Elliot Williams deserves a lot of credit. His 13 sacks in the Summer 2010 season resulted in Williams winning the DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR award.

1. Ryan Lancia- The greatest rusher in PFFL history is none other than VULTUREZ All-Star Ryan Lancia. Although the sackmaster saw his single-season record of 17 sacks get broken by Carter, Lancia is still the league’s all-time leader in sacks with 51 sacks. In just six games of action during the Summer 2011 season, he collected 13 sacks. While the VULTUREZ just beat REIGN without Lancia, they’ll be the first ones to underscore his importance to their long-term success.

Who is in your Top 5?

BM, you are the T.O. of the league. You led the league with dropped balls didn't you??? haha JK. But stats aren't the only thing that matters Swain. Not taking anything away from Cornell because he is a top 5 rusher but how does playing QB effect him as a rusher at all? If anything it would help him and not hinder his abilities when rushing. I also think that who the sacks come against should probably factor into this list as well. If you have 9 sacks against terrible teams that doesn't sa Read More

E def makes our D go. It is a lot easier to play coverage when you know the ball is coming out in 3 seconds or less and if it more then 3 its a floater. Now if only I could help E out with catching some of those floaters.

I agree C.Mack should be on the list. Anyone who can play QB then turn around & rush & put up his numbers should be on the list. Also here's a stat for you... QB's 2011 Fall Stats who attempted @ least 150 passes & didn't get sacked often or @ all... attempts/sacks .. Chris Sullivan STEEL 232/1; Mike Lucyk REIGN 202/2; Steve Chockla BALLZ 175/0; Lance Brusell VULT 121/2; Kevin Haser EB 161/2; Derek Evans WL 159/1...STATS DONT LIE. So if ur a rusher & ur playing their teams...GO Read More

Cornell is right there. I just need to see more. If he can duplicate his performance from last season then things might change. This doesn't change the fact that he's one of the best overall players in the game.

But you know how it is with guys like Cornell, Darius, and Cahill. If I wanted they could make multiple top 5 lists.

I guess if were going off stats your list makes sense but i get to play QB against em.I agree that they are all good rushers but stats will not change my mind that Mack is the best. This is coming from a Reign guy about a Vapor guy also.

Cornell, Steve Orlando and Pep are also very good. But if you go by stats my list is very accurate. The players I listed all earned their spots on my list.

But thanks for your comments guys.

I never agree with BM on anything but hes right on this one.Mack should be number 1.Also Pep should be on that list as well. All the guys on the list are good but these 2 are the only ones that can flat out change a game from that spot.
